The Owl Pen Book Shop NY

For my birthday Dan took me to a few different bookshops. The first stop in our day was here, at The Owl Pen. The Owl Pen is kind of  located in the middle of nowhere down a narrow unpaved road that leads to an old farm. The main book shop is located in an old poultry barn crammed with books.

The second building is located 300 steps across from the main building. (I didn’t actually measure, it’s my guess. It could have been only 50, I was stopped part way through I’ll tell you why in a bit.)

The ride to The Owl Pen took us about an hour and twenty minutes. I’d say we were there for a couple hours, and honestly we could have stayed a couple more. I had made a towering stack of books to buy before asking the owner if she minded my taking pictures.

At this point Dan had disappeared. With all the mini rooms made out of bookshelves and additional buildings that’s pretty easy to do. As I was on my way from building A to building B, the phone rang in The Owl Pen. I didn’t think anything of it, and while I was walking across the lawn, the owner buzzed past me and said, “Well, you can put this on your blog! He’s locked in the outhouse!”

Who? My husband?!

“Yes!”

When I pulled my phone out of my bag I saw 8 missed calls, and several text messages… all from Dan who was trapped in an outhouse that I didn’t even know existed. – I feel bad for laughing as much as I did, but truthfully you just kinda have to.

I think we ended up buying about 30 books, and Dan walked out with the Jimmie Walker print. It was a pretty stellar birthday trip.
